Renewing Your Residence Permit and SGK
When your Residence Permit expires, your SGK coverage (Social Security) will be automatically deactivated, and monthly payments will be suspended until you renew your residency. Note that you’ll still need to pay any overdue amounts.

- Renew Your Residency: Apply for an extension online or at your local Directorate of Migration Management.
- Visit the SGK Office: After renewing your permit, obtain a Provizyon Sorgulama Cevap (provision inquiry document) confirming your SGK coverage.
- Keep Your SGK Updated: Some provinces may require you to revisit the SGK office after one year to confirm your residency status. Check with your local office for specific requirements.
Getting Your Documents Legalized
Legalizing documents from your home country can be a key requirement for various official processes in Turkey, such as residency applications or property transactions.

- Use the Legalisation Office in your home country to confirm the signature, stamp, or seal of a public official.
- The office will attach an apostille (official certificate) to your document, verifying its authenticity for use in Turkey.

Applying for Turkish Residency
Relocating to Turkey often begins with an e-Visa and is followed by applying for a Residence Permit for stays longer than 90 days. Residency permits can be issued for:
- 1–3 years for short-term residency.
- Permanent residency after eight years, subject to eligibility.
