Turkish Residence

If you are planning to move and live in Turkey it is important to do your homework as you must meet a certain criteria in order to gain Turkish Residence.

It is necessary to obtain a Turkish Tax number from your local tax office (Vergi Dairesi). You will need this to open a Turkish bank account, register utility bills in your own name, paying your council taxes, obtaining residence status  and applying for a Turkish driving license are to name but a few.

You will need to apply for a Turkish Residence Permit.  This allows you to reside in the country and can be issued for up to 2 years (short term permit), 3 years (family permit) or after 8 years of residence, you can apply for a long-term permit.

You must also have health insurance in order to obtain your Turkish residence.  There are many options available and you have the choice of obtaining private Turkish health insurance or to join Turkeys health scheme (SGK).
